Travel photo report of an eleven day tour around Sri Lanka. December 2013 / January 2014
On one of the first days of our stay in Sri Lanka we happened to be in restaurant Ruwini on Lewis Place in Negombo. That day we planned to appoint a private driver who wanted to guide us around the island for about two weeks. While enjoying our Sri Lankan breakfast we noticed a sign on one of the restaurant walls saying we could also book a tour.
We met Ajith and after talking for a while and negotiating a reasonable price we decided to book the trip. The next day we left Negombo in an airconditioned minivan for an eleven day tour around the island.
Not only is Ajith a very good English-speaking driver, he is also an awesome guide! He knows all major attractions, has good suggestions for hotels and restaurants, but even more important, knows numerous cute, little, interesting things along the way.
What we especially liked is that he does not only stop at the must-see tourists hotspots but also showed us - and let us taste of – the real, everyday Sri Lanka. The food stalls along the way, the temples in small villages, markets, small businesses, all highly recommended. He will show you these small and big wonderful highlights because he finds it interesting and not because of commission.
All and all we had a great time and with him. Ajith is flexible, very friendly and funny and can tell you al lot about Sri Lankan, history and culture. It was nice to get to know him, and after a while you will experience that he is an extra friend who travels with you.
In short, if you are looking for a reliable driver / guide, be sure to ask Ajith and you will experience an unforgettable journey!
